The Iconic Father and Son Team
The Ismail father and son team epitomize the essence of hard work, dedication, and family values in the restaurant industry. Led by Khalil Ismail, affectionately known as "Abu Faris," this family's journey in the culinary world began back in 1987 when Khalil ventured into the restaurant business by opening his first pizza shop. However, it was his relentless determination and passion for Middle Eastern cuisine that led him to establish his prized possession, Al-Bawadi Grill, in 2008.
Despite facing numerous challenges along the way, Khalil persevered, transforming Al-Bawadi Grill into an iconic Middle Eastern restaurant in Bridgeview. Over the years, Khalil's three sons – Faris, Hamza, and Saif – joined the family business, starting as busboys, hosts, and waiters to gradually working their way up to managerial roles. Khalil understood the importance of ensuring that his sons were well-versed in every aspect of the restaurant's operations before entrusting them with significant responsibilities.
For Khalil, it was crucial that his sons earned their positions through hard work and dedication rather than simply inheriting them. Through years of learning and growing alongside their father, Faris, Hamza, and Saif developed the skills and expertise necessary to effectively manage and eventually co-own the family's restaurants.
In 2020, Khalil expanded their culinary empire by opening a second location in Niles, which quickly became another Middle Eastern staple in the area. Buoyed by their success, Khalil went on to launch two additional restaurants: Al-Bahaar and Chef Eyad.
The Ismail family's story is not just one of culinary success but also a testament to the power of family bonds and the value of hard work. Through their shared vision and collective efforts, they have not only built thriving businesses but have also created lasting legacies within the culinary landscape, leaving an indelible mark on the communities they serve.
